Nick-Clarens Delva

- Born on July 23, 2011

At the orphanage since March 2014

Nick-Clarens is Méana Jean's son. Méana is an employee at Orphelinat Joie de Vive (OJDV).

Nick-Clarens was born with cerebral palsy. It is believed he suffered from a lack of oxygen during his birth. His mom give birth to him in her seventh month.

When we first met him in February 2014, Clarens (his usual name) had trouble controlling his limbs. His arms were pulled back, his legs were twisted and contorted. After a few months of physical therapy (which he still does to this day), he has developed much better control of his arms and legs. Since the physiotherapist comes to work with him every Saturday, we can monitor his progress and we are so proud of him!

Since September 2015, Clarens has also been enrolled in the kindergarten class that is given at the house. Therefore, he's greatly improved his vocabulary, developed his autonomy and his general knowledge.

In February (2016), Clarens went to the Cayman Islands for an operation to his heart. He needed to have one of the aortas of his heart to be opened up. This delicate procedure consists of having a catheter come up through a small incision in his thigh. He was away for a week and a half with his mom, Meana. Everything went very well and he came back the same cheerful little man he always was.

Nick-Clarens is a happy, affectionate, smart child who talks a mile a minute.
